The word is OUT! Observable Readings has asked the Poetry Center to oversee its 2008-2009 season (CLICK ON THE OBSERVABLE LOGO, OR THIS LINK, TO OPEN THE 2008-2009 SCHEDULE!!!!) Master-mind Aaron Belz has relocated to the westcoast and will be missed, though present in spirit to say the least.  The St. Louis Poetry Center has joyfully accepted the role of oversight and plans to fully absorb the series next season.  In the meantime the line-up of reading poets has been set by Belz and promotion is underway for what looks to be an excellent season at the Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood, just a couple of blocks from our ever popular and ongoing “Poetry at the Point” series.  The only change for this venue will be the absence of Aaron Belz.  We have a team of our best people working to fill in the gap and you will be meeting them as they each take a turn at being the evening’s emcee.

The St. Louis Poetry Center will open the 2008 – 2009 Observable Readings Series season on September 4 with Walter Bargen and Tom Pickard. Walter Bargen is the author of thirteen books of poetry the latest of which Theban Traffic was published this year. Reading with Bargen will be a poet from the English-Scottish border, Tom Pickard, the author of ten books of poetry and prose, including The Dark Months of May (2004), Ballad of Jamie Allan (2007).

All readings are free and open to the public, on the first Thursday of the month (except for a few Saturdays thrown in), 8pm at Schlafly Bottleworks at 7260 Southwest, at Manchester.
