George Bilgere
George Bilgere is the 2006 winner of the May Swenson Poetry Award. His winning manuscript, Haywire, will be published by Utah State University Press this summer. He is the recipient of the 2006 Ohioana Poetry Award, honoring Ohio’s outstanding poet. His book of poetry, Good Kiss, was chosen by U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins to win the 2001 Akron Poetry Prize. Other books include Big Bang (Copper Beech Press) and The Going, which won the Devins Award and the Midland Authors Award 1995. He has received grants and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ohio Arts Council, the Fulbright Commission, and the Witter Bynner Foundation. He has given readings at the Library of Congress and the 92nd Street Y in New York city. He is also the host of "Wordplay," a weekly spoken-word radio show in Cleveland. He teaches courses in modern and contemporary poetry at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.
